UC Berkeley Prof Interview preview: “This is not a revolution.”

Today I was able to interview UC Berkeley Lecturer Darren Zook who had a very unique take on Gangnam Fever and on pop culture’s relationship with politics. Recently the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family or MOGEF as you would often see has lifted a ban on Psy and other Kpop star songs.

MOGEF is well known for their banning of music and play a part in the political censorship of self critique/sexuality. Embedded are 2PM and Psy’s previously banned songs.

As we question not just why Gangnam Style is so popular, but why Korean pop media lacks social commentary and self-deprecation. As I hope to show, it’s not only just politics, which we have many an evidence for, but people too.
